Healthy & Easy Turkey Sloppy Joes

Hello, my foodie friends!

If you’re craving a hearty, comforting meal but want to keep it on the lighter side, these Turkey Sloppy Joes are exactly what you need! Made with lean ground turkey, a rich homemade sauce, and a little kick of spice, they’re packed with flavor but won’t weigh you down.

Sloppy Joes are one of those classic childhood meals that never go out of style, but this healthier version gives them a fresh, nutritious twist. Plus, they’re incredibly easy to make with pantry staples you probably already have on hand! Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a fun meal the whole family will love.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • lb. ground turkey
  • 2 red onion, finely chopped
  • cup tomato sauce
  • 4 cup ketchup
  • tbsp. BBQ sauce
  • tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for extra spice)
  • tsp Cholula hot sauce (or your favorite hot sauce)
  • Whole wheat buns
  • 2% sliced cheese (cheddar, pepper jack, or Swiss work great!)

How to Make Turkey Sloppy Joes

  1. Sauté the onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the red onion until soft and slightly caramelized.
  2. Brown the turkey: Add the ground turkey to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula.
  3. Make the sauce: Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, chili powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and Cholula. Simmer for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  4. Assemble your Sloppy Joes: Toast the whole wheat buns, then add a generous scoop of the turkey mixture. Top with a slice of cheese and let it melt over the hot filling.
  5. Serve & enjoy!
